Super Eagles and Warri Wolves striker Gbolahan Salami is excited by his historic goal against Akwa United in the 1-1 draw of their Week 14 game at the Akwa Ibom International Stadium(Nest of Champions), Uyo, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Salami scored a 74th minute goal for Warri Wolves before Abdulazeez Awaken struck five minutes later for the home team to ensure both sides ended the contest even.
Salami made history by scoring what is now the first Nigeria Glo Premier League goal at the Akwa Ibom International Stadium, and spoke to Completesportsnigeria.com on Sunday evening about his joy at this feat.
AkwaUnited vs Warri Wolves was the first Glo Premier League match at the Nest Of Champions. The home side used to play their home matches at Uyo Township Staadium until the League Management Company(LMC) disapproved it over poor pitch conditions.
“I’m very excited about my historic goal. The team (Warri Wolves) actually went for a victory but unfortunately, we couldn’t score another goal after Akwa United equalised,” Salami told Completesportsnigeria.com moments after the match.
“The stadium in Uyo is indeed beautiful, the pitch is wonderful. I’m happy, but it would have been sweeter if we had won the game. Well, now we are headed for our dinner,” Salami gushed Sunday evening.
It can be recalled that Emem Eduok, then of Dolphins FC, scored the first ever goal in an official match at the Akwa Ibom International Stadium while starring for the Home-based Super Eagles against Ghana’s U23s during the inauguration of the edifice on Friday November 7, 2014.Jiji.ng the cheapest online shopping in Nigeria
