Super Eagles defender Shehu Abdullahi’s Portuguese side Uniao Madeira have been relegated to the Segunda Liga following a 2-1 home defeat against Rio Ave on Saturday, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
Madeira who needed a win to guarantee their safety in Portuguese Primeira Liga finished in the 17th position in the table.
The day started on a good note for the modest side with their Brazilian import Amilton putting them ahead in the 36th minute.
Rio Ave however fought back in the second half with two goals from Bresssan and Helder Postiga.
It remains to be seen if the former Kano Pillars player will remain with the club next season following interest in him from clubs across Europe. His current contract runs until June 2017.
Abdullahi played 27 league matches for Madeira this season, scoring once.
The duo of Dele Alampasu and Oghenekaro Etebo gained promotion with Feirense on Saturday.
