Former Super Eagles and Newcastle United striker Shola Ameobi is set to train with Wolverhampton Wanderers ahead of signing a potential deal with the Championship club, according to reports in England.
The 33-year-old former Gaziantep forward has already trained with Huddersfield Town and the free agent remains in talks with the Yorkshire club.
However, Wolves boss Kenny Jackett has confirmed that Ameobi will head to the Midlands to train with the club and hold discussions about a move.
“Shola will be training with us and coming down to talk – but it’s early in the whole situation,” Jackett told The Chronicle Live.
Ameobi progressed through the Newcastle academy and scored 79 goals in 397 appearances for the Magpies between 2000 and 2014.
He was released by the club in the summer of 2014 and, after originally moving to Turkish side Gaziantep, Ameobi returned to England and made four appearances for former Newcastle boss Alan Pardew at Crystal Palace.
