Siasia: Arsenal’s Iwobi Ripe For Eagles

By Richard Jideaka, Abuja:

Nigeria U-23s coach Samson Siasia has urged the Nigeria Football Federation to speed up action on Arsenal FC of England youngster Alex Iwobi to enable him to be capped for the Super Eagles.

Siasia said for Arsene Wenger to feature the young forward in the Emirate Cup means that Iwobi, who is related to former Nigeria captain Austin Okocha, is good and ripe to get a look-in by the senior national team coaches.

Iwobi who has played for England at Under-16 and Under-19 levels, wants to switch nationality and play for Nigeria, where his father hails from, but there is some paper work to be done before he becomes eligible to play for the 2013 African champions.

“We should cap him now to prevent England from snatching him from us. I wish he was eligible to play for the Under-23s, I would have drafted him to play for my team,” Siasia, whom Iwobi had trained under earlier, told completesportsnigeria.com.

“Iwobi has come of age and I think now is the time to cap him for Super Eagles. He is a good player that will be a future great in Nigeria football. NFF should speed up action and get him cleared to feature for Nigeria.”

  1. Siasia sometimes ago said there is no pressure on him about Congo encounter. Let Siasia understand that Nigerians are worried. Really really worried. Someone should advise Siasia that what he has told us about Iwobi is not anything new. Most Nigerians know this Iwobi boy more than him. What Nigerians want from Siasia is to mind his business and that business is for him to concentrate and see what he can do to beat Congo. Has he read that Congo has invite a whole 6 foreign based players for the Congo vs NIGERIA match? Le Roy is thinking and doing something to beat us but Siasia is pucking his nose in Oliseh’s problem. Someone needs to be tested for substances!!!!!

  2. @djeniko u made me laugh throwing jabs at siasia,i hope u know he will be eligible he plays for siasia as well hence he telling oliseh and nff to hasten up cos is true england may just end up capping him but thank jay jay is an uncle no much qualms there..and i believe congo inviting 6 pros will be to their detriment cos cohesion is needed at youth level besides siasia did it in zambia so why worry all he need is ur support and prayers cos d team really did play in ph..

I think Siasia should always try to be humble and respect his opponent. He was boasting of beating Congo 4-0 forgetting they are equally a good side. Now everybody is afraid of what the outcome will be and he is here talking about a player who should be invited. Please concentrate on how you will defeat Congo after which you can talk about anybody.
