Nigeria U-23s head coach, Samson Siasia, is confident his team will qualify from their All-Africa Games group despite their being drawn against Egypt, Ghana and Senegal.
The former Super Eagles striker admits in a Nigeria Football Federation press release that his team face a tough task, but he insists there is no cause for alarm.
Siasia, who led Nigeria to silver at the Beijing Olympics in 2008, is surprised that the strongest teams in the men’s football tournament ended up in the same group following Thursday’s draw in, Cairo, Egypt.
“I can tell you for free that this Group B is a tough one, for all the countries in this group can qualify for the semi finals,” he told the NFF website. “All I can say for now is that we are not afraid of any of them, and will know what to do when we get to that bridge.”
Siasia added that for now, all his concentration is on the African U-23 Championship qualifying fixture home and away to Congo, as that is of immediate importance.
Meanwhile, the U-23s will on Friday play a friendly game against Nigeria Nation-Wide League club Go Round FC in Port Harcourt. The match kicks off at 4pm.
