National U-23 team handler Samson Siasia has showered plaudits on Daniel Akpeyi who was in goal for the Super Eagles in their 1-1 draw with South Africa on Sunday.
Akpeyi was the standout performer in a Super Eagles team that played below par, even saving a 63rd minute penalty kick by the South Africans.
Speaking as a guest analyst on AIT, Siasia praised the Eagles for a much improved second half display, also praising Ahmed Musa for his goal.
“For me, I think the best player for Nigeria would have to be Daniel Akpeyi. He did very well, even the goal they scored against him wasn’t his fault. I don’t know what happened to Oboabona, he should have cleared the ball.
“The team came back much improved in the second half, they were holding the ball and trying to make some moves and Musa came alive too and the goal he scored was wonderful. And that is one thing about Musa, once in a while he surprises you, sometimes he plays like he is lost and is not there.”
Akpeyi was selected for the friendly game against South Africa following an injury to Vincent Enyeama.
