By Richard Jideaka, Abuja:
Chief Coach of national Under-23 team, Samson Siasia says he has prepared his team for a hostile reception in Lusaka ahead of the All Africa Games final qualifier against Zambia on Saturday.
Speaking before the team jetted out for the match on Thursday from Abuja, Siasia said from his experience as a player, he knows the Zambians will apply all kinds of negative strategies to beat Nigeria, but that he has put measures to check all that.
“We have to be very smart in Zambia to ensure that they don’t put balls behind us, there will be no offside trap in Lusaka because we are going to play against a very hostile team, fans and may be officiating.
“We have to contain them in the midfield and break them with fast play to score goals.
“I can assure you that we won’t be going there to park the bus, we have to guard our back and hope to sneak in a goal or two.
“We shall be defensive minded but we have to be smart about it and go for goals”, he stated
Siasia said the team is ready for any eventuality and have also prepared for penalty shoot out but emphasized that they are not banking on that, stressing that the idea is to win in within regulation time in Lusaka.
The former Super Eagles coach divulged that he was not under pressure to win as directed by the Director-General of the National Sports Commission but looking forward to book a ticket for the All Africa Games by getting a good result in Lusaka.
He said the players are motivated by the idea of qualifying and playing at the All Africa Games later this year, pointing out that there was no other motivation from the NSC or NFF.
