Seattle Sounders will be banking on Obafemi Martins to secure a spot in the Audi 2015 MLS Cup Playoffs spot from the Western Conference when they take on Houston Dynamo on Saturday.
Earlier this season, the Sounders defeated the Dynamo 1-0 at CenturyLink Field thanks to an amazing goal from Nigerian star Martins.
With FC Dallas, LA Galaxy, Vancouver Whitecaps already through, Seattle Sounders – currently fifth on the log – must beat Houston Dynamo to seal their place in this year’s playoffs with one game to spare.
Currently, Dynamo currently sit on 41 points, six points adrift of their visitors who will hit a solid 50 points and 15 wins for the year, securing a seventh-straight spot in the post-season.
“We control our own destiny,” Sounders coach Sigi Schmid told the club's website. “As long as we take care of what we need to take care of, we’ll get to where we want to go. That’s the best position to be in.”
Martins has scored 14 goals in 19 MLS games this season.
Meanwhile, The Eastern Conference also continues to heat up, with four spots still available. The New York Red Bulls sit atop the Supporters' Shield standings with 54 points, with D.C. United also through to playoffs.
Didier Drogba's Montreal Impact are slowly climbing the table and now sit above the red line after a big win over the Colorado Rapids on Saturday.
This year's playoffs will be the first with an expanded field of 12 teams. The third and fourth seeds in each conference host the fifth and sixth seeds in single knockout matches.
