Tottenham Hotspur’s hope of finishing second in the English Premier League suffered a setback after they lost 2-1 to Southampton in Sunday’s clash at White Hart Lane.
A brace from Steven Davis secured the win for Southampton.
Heung-Min Son opened the scoring for Tottenham in the encounter.
The early stage of the game saw Christian Eriksen and Dusan Tadic come close to scoring for their respective teams.
But in the 16th minute, Son put Spurs ahead after racing on to Erik Lamela’s pass, drbbling past Fraser Forster and slotting into the net.
In the 31st minute, Davies drew Southampton level, scoring from close range off a Tadic assist.
And in the second half, Davis grabbed his second goal, combining with Tadic again before finding the bottom corner.
Spurs will take on relegation battlers Newcastle at St. James’ Park in their final EPL game of the season next Sunday.
