Nigerian Professional Football League side, Sunshine Stars of Akure Monday distanced themselves from suggestions that their match day-9 NPFL clash with Shooting Stars of Ibadan was overshadowed by ugly incidents, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
There were suggestions that 3SC officials; Rasheed Balogun, general manager of the club and Dan Fulani, Coordinator of the Ibadan side, were manhandled by an irate fans at the Akure Stadium on Sunday during the match.
"There was no time before, during and after the match that match officials were attacked or harassed as being speculated in some quarters," Sunshine Stars claimed in a statement by spokesman, Wahab Bankole on Monday..
"There was no encroachment by the fans during the game as the match was not stopped for a single minute by the match officials.
"If there was encroachment as claimed in some quarters, then the match will witness stoppages.
"The match officials were not smuggled out of the stadium. What for? The match started and ended peacefully. So why would the match officials be smuggled out?
"Top officials of Sunshine Stars including the club President, Prince John Ola Mafo left the stadium peacefully, so also the match officials".
"Sunshine Stars have drawn two matches at home this season and heaven did not fall," the statement added without specific mention on the alleged attack on the Shooting Stars officials.
