Sunshine Stars beat Kwara United 2-1 at the Ilorin Township on Saturday to end their Glo Premier League four-match winless streak and also revive their fading title aspirations.
The Owena Waves, who were without top scorer Tunde Adeniji who was suspended for the tie, rallied back from a goal down to secure their second away win of the campaign.
Both sides made six changes to their squad with the hosts dropping six of the players who featured in last weekend’s 3-0 loss to Warri Wolves.
The visitors turned to Dele Olorundare in the abscence of Adeniji, while there was also no place for Mutiu Adegoke, who gave a below par showing in last Sunday’s 3-2 home loss to Nasarawa United, in the starting line-up.
Kwara United who are in a deep battle to avoid the drop bossed the game at the start and scored the opener through Dare Ojo in the 17th minute.
The midfielder delivered a supreme finish, curling home from outside the box after superb team work.
The Harmony Boys failed to double their lead afterwards despite dominating the game, allowing Kennedy Boboye’s charges to get on level terms through Dayo Ojo in the 48 minute.
Versatile winger, Prince Aggreh, who is Nigeria’s squad for next month’s friendlies against Congo Democratic Republic and Cameroon, skipped past his marker to provide the assist for Ojo.
Four minutes later, Aggreh turned provider again as he laid the ball for substitute Emmanuel Sunday to scored the winner.
The Akure-based side moved to third position with the win, while Kwara United remain 17th on the log.
