The Nigeria Football Federation and sports kits manufacturing giants, Nike, have reached a kit supply agreement for Nigerian national teams, Complete Sports has scooped.
Both parties have agreed to go into partnership that will see Nike supply the kits and training equipment for the Super Eagles, Super Falcons, the U-23s, Flying Eagles, Falconets, the Golden Eaglets and Flamingoes.
An executive committee member who requested for anonymity revealed that Nike who were Nigeria’s kit sponsor to their first World Cup appearance in 1994 has agreed in principle to kit all the country’s national teams for the time being with effect from May this year.
According to our source, the agreement for now is just to supply Nigeria with kits without sponsorship payment because Nike officials are skeptical about the form of the Super Eagles, which is Nigeria’s biggest brand.
“We hope to sign a contract with Nike to supply us kits for a period before we talk about the sponsorship money,” the Complete Sports source revealed. “It is okay for us now than to keep on buying kits from those who have told us in clear terms that they are not interested in dealing with us again.
“Nike is one of the best kit manufacturers in the world and I think they will pay us when our teams show class in the championships ahead of them in the next few months. We hope to sign the deal soon.”
Ahead of the contract signing, Nike we were told has requested for designs and various things required for the three national teams that will be involved in the Women’s World Cup, Under- 20 World Cup and the U-17 World Cup this year.
In effect Super Falcons, Flying Eagles and Golden Eaglets would all wear Nike kits at their respective World Cups from June this year.
