Secretary General of the Nigeria Taekwondo Federation, Sunny Obot, has expressed confidence that the athletes that will represent the country at the All Africa Games will not disappoint.
In chat with completesportsnigeria.com, Obot stated that with the kind of preparation the athletes have had, they will come back with medals.
“The athletes are ready for the games, there are no injury worries, they’ve prepared very well for games.
“And the president of the taekwondo federation, who is an insider in the sport, has promised that the athletes will come back with medals and we believe they will do well,” Obot told completesportsnigeria.com.
Obot also said that the failure of invited foreign-based taekwondoists to turn up to the team’s Abuja camp will not affect their medal chances.
“We were expecting some of our foreign-based athletes to join the Abuja camp for the trials but unfortunately they didn’t turn up.
“But that would not in anyway affect the team’s chances of winning medals in Congo. Again we don’t know what they’ve been doing, whether they’ve been training or not. And the athletes who have been in camp training could be better than them, so we decided to leave them out,” he posited.
