Tanzania Boss: We Stand a Good Chance

Nurudeen Obalola:

The President of the Tanzania Football Federation, Jamal Malinzi, is confident his team can cause a major upset and qualify for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Taifa Stars were drawn in Group G alongside African heavyweights Nigeria and Egypt, with only one spot guaranteed.

But Malinzi, who was elected TFF President in October 2013, believes qualification is not beyond his country.

Upon the announcement of the draw on Wednesday, Malinzi wrote on Twitter : “We shall surprise them” and “we shall prevail.”

Afterwards, Complete Sports contacted the football administrator to get his views on his side’s chances against the group favourites.

He replied: “We stand a very good chance. We start away versus Egypt, then at home to Nigeria.”

Tanzania have only qualified for the Nations Cup once, when they lost 3-1 to Nigeria and 2-1 to Egypt in Lagos in 1980.
