The President of the Tanzania Football Federation, Jamal Malinzi, believes the Super Eagles were lucky to escape with a draw on Saturday.
The Taifa Stars created several good chances but were thwarted by excellent goalkeeping from debuting Carl Ikeme in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Dar Es Salaam.
“Honestly, Tanzania deserved a better result,” Malinzi told completesportsnigeria.com in an exclusive chat.
“We created more chances and had better possession.”
The draw left Tanzania with just one point from two matches following their 3-0 defeat to Egypt earlier in the qualifying campaign.
However, Malinzi has not given up on qualifying, urging the Super Eagles to halt Egypt’s march to Gabon 2017.
“Please go on and beat Egypt in March 2016!” the Tanzania federation boss added, while pinning his hopes on next year’s fixtures.
“Difficult to say if we will qualify now. Decider will be back-to-back games in March 2016.”
Nigeria will play Egypt twice in March, with Tanzania and Chad also facing off back-to-back.
