Former Super Eagles defender Taye Taiwo on Tuesday evening spared thoughts for Nigeria's home-based Super Eagles that lost 1-0 to the Sylli Stars of Guinea and ultimately crashed out of the 2016 African Nations Championship, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
An Ibrahima Sankhoun goal proved decisive as Sunday Oliseh's team failed to conjure an equaliser which was good enough to guarantee a quarter-final berth.
HJK Helsinki of Finland left-back, Taiwo, spoke to Completesportsnigeria.com on the outcome of Tuesday's game.
"It was unfortunate the team lost the match. Guinea is a west African country, so it was always going to be a difficult match," Taiwo told Completesportsnigeria.com
"We have some really talented players in the Nigerian league who could be part of the Super Eagles team going forward, well maybe not as starters really, when the foreign-based players are involved.
"My advise to the home-based players is that whenever coach Sunday Oliseh gives them such opportunity, they must endeavour to put in their best.
"The African Cup of Nations and World Cup qualifiers are still there to be played. We have to look forward," Taiwo stressed.
The home-based Eagles defeated Niger 4-1 and drew 1-1 against Tunisia in their other Group C matches.Jiji.ng the cheapest online shopping in Nigeria.
