1. RONNY ROSENTHAL
Aston Villa Vs Liverpool, at Villa Park
Israeli striker Ronny Rosenthal missed what could arguably be the most incredible goal miss in the history of the Barclays Premier League on September 19, 1992 – in the first season of the Premier League in England.
Playing for Liverpool, the forward found himself bearing down at goal as he received a long pass from his side's half.
Impressively, the striker rounded the Aston Villa keeper cleverly, but then Rosenthal who should have actually lived up to expectation like the Israeli soldiers, shot the ball against bar.
Rosenthal was under no pressure as he was in complete control of the ball and had no single player on the Villa goal line to clear the ball.
2. RICHARD MORALES
Senegal Vs Uruguay, At The Suwon World Cup Stadium
Uruguay's Richard Morales on June 11, 2002 ensured his name entered the history books of the FIFA World Cup, for the wrong reasons though.
Morales was presented with a chance to salvage a point for his national team against Senegal who were leading 3-2 at the time in the Group A game, but his header at the near post was as comical as they come.
He tried to direct the ball coming from a cross, goal-bound with his head, but misjudged the flight of the ball and it went wide.
Luckily for Morales, his team rallied to gain a 3-3 draw so he slept relatively easier.
3. NWANKWO KANU
West Brom Vs Middlesbrough At The Hawthorns
Former African Footballer of the Year Nwankwo Kanu was Nigeria's most decorated player of his generation.
Nigerian fans as well as the fans of Kanu's former clubs had wonderful, wonderful memories of his playing days but there was a moment in the career of Papilo that himself would wish never happened.
That better forgotten moment came in a Premier League game against Middlesbrough on 14 November 2004.
Kanu was presented with a goal-scoring opportunity in the 90th minute, with West Brom 2–1 down at this time.
The former Ajax, Inter Milan and Arsenal striker had the goal at his mercy but he inexplicably lifted the ball over the bar from two yards away from the goal line.
The Hawthorns Stadium were shocked by Kanu's miss and it has always been a point of reference in preview/review shows on television in England.
4. YAKUBU AIYEGBENI
South Korea Vs Nigeria, At Moses Mabhida Stadium, Durban
Nigeria's Super Eagles were playing in the first World Cup to be hosted on African soil but one of the lowest moments of that participation was in the game against South Korea on June 22, 2010.
Then Everton striker, Yakubu Ayegbeni, was standing in front of the Korean goal post as if he was the proud owner of the place but he conspired to shoot wide when he would have just tapped in the
simplest of goals that even a pregnant woman in her third trimester could have scored.
Luckily for the striker who believes he can score once he is 'fed' the ball, he converted a penalty which ensured Nigeria pulled a 2-2 draw.
5. FERNANDO TORRES
Manchestet United Vs Chelsea, At Old Trafford
The January transfer window of 2011 went into overdrive following Fernando Torres' arrival at Chelsea from Liverpool.
Torres was considered one of the best strikers in the world while at Liverpool, but his reputation was hit hard since his big money move to the Blues and this incident didn't help matters.
The Spanish striker, who had just scored an absolute beauty, was ready to show the world that the real Fernando Torres was back at Old Trafford on 18 September 2011.
But after gliding past David De Gea gracefully, Torres failed to hit the open target. A truly shocking miss from a man of his calibre. He must have wished the earth opened, for him to hide!
6. EDIN DZEKO
Manchester City Vs Stoke City, At The Etihad
Roma striker Edin Dzeko was playing for Manchester City on 22 February 2014 against Stoke City when he missed what could probably pass as the most embarrassing moment his career.
In the 74th minute, and with City one goal in the bag, thanks to former African Footballer of the Year Yaya Toure, Dzeko latched onto a low cross from Jesus Navas, and with the goal at his mercy somehow messed up his footing and allowed the ball to get stuck under his feet.
The Bosnian lost his footing and failed to direct the ball home into the empty net from two yards. Yakubu Aiyegbeni must have said: "Thank God, I'm not the only one with such misses" when Dzeko failed to score.
The striker took his frustration out on the post by kicking it as the City fans watched in disbelief.
What's more funny is the fact that Dzeko was presented with a chance to impress after lengthy spells on the City bench which he kicked against.
7. ALI SAMI YACHIR
MC Algier VS CR Belouizdad, At The July 5 Stadium
Algerian midfielder Ali Sami Yachir who plays for Algerian side, ASO Chief , almost broke Youtube record in September 2013 due to his missing what was probably the simplest of goal-scoring chances.
Yachir was then playing for MC Algier when they faced CR Belouizdad in an Algerian league game on September 14.
The Belouizdad keeper had fallen over the ball after some sloppy defending and Yachir had all time to even perform his obligatory 'Salat' and 'Tahajjud' prayers and continue his football, but he wasted no time to shoot the ball wide, with an open net right in front of him.
Yachir was substituted in the 79th minute of the match which his team won 2-1.
Who knows, Ali Sami Yachir's children may have asked their dad why on earth he let an opportunity like that pass by.
8. ARJEN ROBBEN
Manchester United Vs Bayern Munich, At Old Trafford
It was the first leg of the quarter-finals clash in the UEFA Champions League of the 2013/2014 season.
Manchester United hosted Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich at Old Trafford and it ended 1-1 on April Fool's Day (April 1, 2014).
Dutch winger Arjen Robben missed a sitter following a lay-off from Mario Goetze.
His low shot from the edge of the area went terribly wide when he had a better chance to direct his effort at goal.
That was a perfect April Fool's day package for Robben's fans who thought he will score a glorious goal at the 'Theatre of Dreams'.
9. KINGSLEY COMAN
Borussia Monchengladbach Vs Bayern Munich, At Monchengladbach
The next blooper comes from another Bavarian.
Bayern Munich slipped to their first league defeat of the 2015/2016 season on December 5, 2015, falling 3-1 at Borussia Monchengladbach.
Bayern should have gone in well ahead at the break with Thomas Muller, Robert Lewandowski and Javi Martinez all firing straight at Gladback goalkeeper Jan Sommer when well placed.
But perhaps the biggest culprit of the day was youngster Kingsley Coman who missed a sitter, hitting the post from close range when it looked easier to score. It became one of the biggest goal-scoring howlers in the Bundesliga.
Coman will not like to see the video of the miss again, but thankfully, his team are still on top of the Bundesliga table.
10. PER MERTESACKER
Arsenal Vs Bournemouth, At The Emirates Stadium
Arsenal defeated Bournemouth 2-0 on December 28, 2015 in the Barclays Premier League, but one of the highlights of the game was the goal miss of German defender, Per Mertesacker.
The defender found himself with a golden chance to double Arsenal’s lead at the time after a Gabriel header rebounded off the post, but he could only watch on as it skewed off his forehead and into the stands. The 2014 World Cup winner fell to the ground, crestfallen.
This miss will for a very long time be on television programmes as one of the biggest bloopers in the Barclays Premier League.
