–Late Eagles star’s two daughters gets scholarships
By Sab Osuji:
Late Rashidi Yekini’s lawyer, Barrister Jubril Mohammed has commended the League Management Company, LMC, for adopting the proposal by the Rashidi Yekini Foundation to have the league top scorer’s award named after Nigeria’s all time top scorer, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Yekini during his life time scored a total of 37 goals in 58 league appearances in the Nigeria top flight.
“Over the years, this foundation has been organising the Rashidi Yekini Annual Memorial event, but we found out it become increasingly difficult to keep it going,” Mohammed said on Tuesday.
“So we wrote to LMC last month in our desire to have the name of Yekini engraved in the sands of time, having scored the highest number of goals in the league and the national team.
“We requested for the institution of an award in our league where my late client had recorded highest goals severally and also with the national team would be more logical.
“We wrote to LMC on June 1, informing them of our proposal to have the Highest Goal Scorer Award in the Nigerian League with the cash of N100,000 for the winner.
“We’re happy that the secretary of LMC replied us through an mail on June 14, 2015, acknowledging receipt of the proposal and pledged to get back to us.
“I only read it in the newspapers just like everybody did that the LMC has accepted our proposal and would soon unveil an award in honour of Rashidi Yekini.
“I’m very happy because our objective and aim of the foundation has been achieved, although I would have expected the LMC to inform us that they have adopted and expanded the idea.
“The foundation is ready to collaborate with the LMC to make the award as glamorous as we have in mind, because the plan is to have the two daughters of the late striker in attendance any time the award would take place and probably having the honour of presenting the award to the eventual winner,” the Yekini’s lawyer said.
Barrister Mohammed said the foundation has achieved its first objective which was to immortalize Nigeria’s all time scorer and will now focus on the second objective which was to ensure the proper education of Yekini’s two daughters.
“The first daughter of late Rashidi Yekini, Mariam, is schooling at Leicester University, United kingdom.
“We are hoping to use the foundation to support her education. The second daughter, Yemisi, who is living in Nigeria, has just wrote her West African School Certificate Examinations, WASC and the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) exams.
“She performed very well with very encouraging results. She wants to read Law at the University of Ilorin.
“The responsibility of the foundation is to raise enough funds to help her realize this lofty dreams,” Barrister Mohammed said at a press conference in Ibadan Tuesday.Uncover how I make $750 weekly on Facebook using never been revealed Social Media tools.
