Golden Eaglets duo of Victor Osimhen and Kelechi Nwakali were dropped from the U-23 Eagles’ final 21-man squad for the CAF U-23 Cup of Nations in Senegal which kicks off on Saturday 28 November, Completesportsnigeria.com has been informed.
According to camp sources, coach Samson Siasia included four overseas-based players and 17 home-based players for the tournament.
The four foreign-based players are strikers Taiwo Awoniyi from German second division side FSV Frankfurt, Junior Ajayi of Tunisian club CS Sfaxien, Isaac success from La Liga side Granada and midfielder Azubuike Okechukwu of Yeni Matalatyaspor in Turkey.
Among the home-based players listed for the tournament are Emmanuel Daniel, Zaharadeen Bello, Seun Olubayo, Segun Oduduwa, Stanley Dimgba, Oghenekaro Etebo and Seun Olubayo.
The U-23 Eagles will begin their campaign on Sunday against Mali in Mbour.
They will also battle Egypt on December 2 in Mbour and three days later play their final Group B match against Algeria in Dakar.
The top three teams will qualify automatically for next year’s Olympics in Rio, while the fourth-placed team will go into a play-off.
