Nigeria U-23s coach Samson Siasia has invited FC Barcelona B team defender Godswill Ekpolo and Nathan Oduwa of Glasgow Rangers to camp for the second Africa U-23 Cup of Nations taking place in Senegal from 28 November to 12 December this year.
The Nigeria Footbal Federation said in release made available to Completesportsnigeria.com that Siasia explained he is inviting both players to come and fight for jerseys in the squad as he intends to build to strong team that will do the nation proud not only in Senegal but at the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro next year.
“After the All Africa Games in Congo, I noticed some departments of the team that needed to be worked on, so I decided to extend my dragnet in search of players who have shown interest in playing for Nigeria in a bid to building a solid team that will be the pride of all Nigerians,” Siasia said.
Siasia however appealed to Nigerians to be patient with him and his technical crew as they go about building a solid U-23 squad for Nigeria.
Meanwhile, Siasia has directed all clubs in the Nigeria Professional Football League requesting for the release of their players for league games to send their request to the General Secretary of Nigeria Football Federation, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, as he (Siasia) has no power to release any player.
Expressing displeasure at the requests being made by these clubs for the release of their players, Siasia said: “While I understand with them that they need their players for club engagements, I also want to remind them that they need to co-operate with us to qualify for the football event of the Rio Olympic Games, and the only way we can achieve this objective is by having all the players in camp to train so we can pick only the best.”
The U-23 Eagles boss insists that for now, no player will be released from the camp, and that aside from those in the Super Eagles B that are in Ouagadougou for Sunday’s CHAN qualifier against Etalons of Burkina Faso, all other players must report to camp and be part of the team’s training session on Monday, October 26, or forget about reporting to camp altogether.Jiji.ng the cheapest online shopping in Nigeria Exposed!!!
