U-23 Eagles Beat Senegal, Qualify For Rio Olympics

Nigeria's U23s have qualified for the 2016 Rio Olympic games after defeating hosts Senegal 1-0 in the semi-final of the CAF U-23 Cup of Nations on Wednesday.

Stand-in skipper Oghenekaro Etebo converted a 77th minute penalty after Ousseynou Thioune handled the ball inside the 18-yard box.

Senegal dominated large parts of the encounter and were awarded a 46th minute penalty after Emmanuel Daniel brought down a Senegalese player.

Daniel made amends by saving the spot kick from Ibrahima Keita.

The U-23 Eagles will now wait for the winners between South Africa and Algeria in Saturday's final.

  1. OK I predicted 0-3 in favor of Ngr but a win is a win no matter the score line. Maybe 0-3 was a way to harsh but it was the Senegalese that started the mind game and Siasia and even Complete Sports were losing it. As a Nigerian I have to do something and so came the over-flogged 0-3. Well done boys. Be focused now that you have qualified for the Olympic proper and wait to meet South Africa or that Algeria that topped our group. I prefer the Algerians as we have met before. Anyone that comes will meet its Waterloo. Well done once more.
