U-23 Eagles Hold Congo, Reach African Tourney

By James Agberebi:

Nigeria have qualified for the African U-23 Championship in Senegal after holding Congo to a 0-0 draw in the return leg of their qualifier in Pointe Noire.

Needing to avoid losing by 1-0 or a heavy defeat, the U-23 Eagles held their hosts to a draw to end the tie 2-1 on aggregate.

In the first leg played two weeks ago in Port Harcourt, Junior Ajayi got a brace for Nigeria while Moise Nkounkou got Congo only goal.

The African U-23 Championship will serve as the qualifier for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

At the last edition in Morocco, the U-23 Eagles crashed out in the group stage, when the team was led by Austin Eguavoen.
