Nigeria's U-23 national team have been invited to participate in the 2016 Toulon tournament in France between May 18 and 29, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Samson Siasia's team will be the second Nigerian national team to play in the tournament after John Obuh's Flying Eagles participated in the 2013 edition before the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Turkey.
Last year's runners-up, Morocco, and 2010 African representatives, Cote d' Ivoire, are the other African nations to have taken part in the tournament.
Ten teams have been invited to take part in the tournament specially reserved for U-20 players but the organisers have opted to allow the invited teams to register players born from January 1, 1993 and who are expected to play at this year's Olympics in August as part of preparations for the football tournament of the Games.
Aside from Nigeria and France, South Africa who are Africa's other representative at the men's football tournament in Ri,o have been invited, according to the tournament's official website, www.festival.foot.espoirs.com.
Other countries invited for the tournament that began in 1967 as a club tournament include England, Colombia, Australia, Japan, Mexico, Czech Republic and Portugal.
The Nigeria U23s will play a minimum of four matches during the competition.
