NIGERIA HAVE NEVER LOST IN THE SEMI-FINALS OF THE OLYMPICS
Nigeria men's Olympic football team have played in two semi-finals at the games and on the two occasions they have qualified for the final.
The first time Nigeria made it to the semi-finals was in Atlanta 1996 where they defeated Brazil 4-3 in a thrilling encounter.
And at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, Nigeria progressed to the semi-finals where they defeated Belgium 4-1.
NIGERIA HAVE SCORED FOUR GOALS IN THEIR TWO SEMI-FINALS APPEARANCES AT THE OLYMPICS
The two times Nigeria have made it to the semi-finals at the Olympics, they've score four goals each time.
In Atlanta 1996, Nigeria came from a 3-1 goal deficit to beat Brazil 4-3 in extra-time following Nwankwo Kanu's golden goal.
And in Beijing 2008, Nigeria trounced Belgium 4-1 to advance into the final.
NIGERIA HAVE CONCEDED IN THE TWO SEMI-FINALS AT THE OLYMPICS
At the Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games, Brazil scored three first-half goals to go into the break 3-1 ahead.
Nigeria eventually came back to stun a star-studded Brazilian side that had Ronaldo, Rivaldo, Roberto Carlos and Bebeto 4-3.
Against Belgium at the 2008 games, Nigeria raced to a 4-0 lead thanks to goals from the late Olufemi Olubayo, Chinedu Obasi (brace) and Chibuzor Okonkwo.
But Laurent Ciman grabbed a consolatory goal for Belgium to end the tie 4-1.
NIGERIA HAVE SCORED IN THE FIRST HALF IN THEIR TWO SEMI-FINALS APPEARANCES AT THE OLYMPICS
Against Brazil in Atlanta 1996, Flavio Conceicao gave his side the lead from a free-kick.
But Celestine Babayaro drew Nigeria level before goals from Bebeto and Conceicao ended the first half 3-1.
And against Belgium in Beijing 2008, Olubayo put Nigeria 1-0 ahead before the interval.
BRAZIL HAVE ALWAYS MADE IT TO EVERY SEMI-FINAL NIGERIA HAVE APPEARED IN AT THE OLYMPICS
Nigeria's first ever appearance in the semi-finals at the Olympic Games was in Atlanta 1996.
Aside from Nigeria, the three other teams who also made it to the last four were Brazil, Argentina and Portugal.
In Beijing 2008, Nigeria made their second semi-finals appearance. And also in the semi-finals were Brazil, Argentina and Belgium.
In the on-going Rio Olympics, the three other teams that will be vying for a final spot alongside Nigeria are hosts Brazil, Germany and Honduras.
