Leicester City have confirmed their qualification into the round of 16 of this season’s UEFA Champions League with a game to spare after defeating Club Brugge 2-1 at the King Power Stadium on matchday 5 on Tuesday.
The win left Leicester finishing on top of Group G.
Needing just a point to progress into the next round, Leicester made sure of their qualification thanks to goals from Shinji Okazaki (fifth minute) and Riyad Mahrez (30th minute penalty).
Club Brugge’s goal was scored by Jose Izquierdo on 52 minutes.
Super Eagles forward Ahmed Musa was an unused substitute in the encounter.
In Group F, at the Signal Iduna Park, Borussia Dortmund and Legia Warszawa broke the record for the highest scoreline in the history of the Champions League following Dortmund’s 8-4 victory against their Polish opponents.
A hat-trick for Marco Reus, a brace for Shinji Okazaka and a goal each from Ousmane Dembele, Felix Passlack and Nuri Sahin secured the emphatic win for Dortmund.
In Group E, Tottenham Hotspur failed to progress into the round of 16 following their 2-1 away loss to AS Monaco.
In other results, Juventus came from a goal down to beat 10-man Sevilla 3-1 in Spain, Real Madrid confirmed their place in the second round with a 2-1 away win against 10-man Sporting Lisbon while Lyon pip home team Dinamo Zagreb 1-0.
