Manchester United crashed out of the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night after suffering a 3-2 defeat against Wolfsburg.
Naldo’s 84th minute goal ended the contest for Louis van Gaal’s men just two minutes after his team-mate Joshua Guilavogui scored an own goal whilst trying to head away the ball in his team’s 18-yard box.
The highlights of the second half were the instinctive saves of United keeper David De Gea who tried to keep the Red Devils in the game.
Memphis Depay had United’s best chance in the second half but Diego Benaglio kept away his scissors’ kick from close range.
The first half ended 2-1. Anthony Martial scored the game’s opening goal in the 10th minute.
The Frenchman received a through pass from Juan Mata and placed the ball beyond the reach of Wolfsburg keeper Benaglio.
Naldo equalised for the Germans four minutes later when he swept home the ball from a Ricardo Rodriguez freekick.
Veirinha made it 2-1 when he finished off a good team play, with much of the work done by Julian Draxler.
Andre Schurrle and Maroune Fellaini also came to scoring for their respective teams in the first half. Schurlle blazed his shot wide from close range but Fellaini’s header was saved by Benaglio
Jesse Lingard saw his goal towards the end of the first half ruled out for offside.
PSV defeated CSKA Moscow 2-1 at the PSV Stadion which was not the result United wanted.
Luk De Jong and Dan Propper scored PSV’s goals while Ignashevich converted a penalty for CSKA that paraded Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa for 90 minutes.
Wolfsburg had 12 points while PSV ended with 10. United will play in the Europa League as they claimed eight points in six games. Musa’s CSKA had four points in six matches.
