The Presidential hosting of the victorious Golden Eaglets team appears to have been postponed.
Completesportsnigeria.com gathered from a reliable source that the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup-winning team might have to wait for a yet to be fixed date for the celebration as President Mohammed Buhari is away on a meeting of Commonwealth heads of state in Malta and another one in Paris on Sunday.
The hosting was scheduled for Sunday.
“Another date will be fixed for the ceremony as the President is away in Malta and Paris for meetings,” the source told Completesportsnigeria.com.
“If the boys will be hosted today (Sunday) they would have received a call from the Nigeria Football Federation to converge in an hotel or some place.”
This would be the second time President Buhari will be hosting a victorious Golden Eaglets team; he was the Military Head Of State in 1985 when Nigeria won her first FIFA tournament.
General Buhari received the Nduka Ugbade-led 1985 led Golden Eaglets at Dodan Barracks in Lagos.
Emmanuel Amuneke led the Nigeria U-17 team to win the nation’s fifth World Cup title for the first time outside the Asian continent, defeating Mali in the final.
