Amkar Perm of Russia midfielder Izunna Uzochukwu has revealed to Completesportsnigeria.com why he was left out of the Super Eagles squad for the October friendlies against Cameroon and Congo.
He also says he will return to action for Amkar in Thursday’s Russian Cup clash against second division Spartak Nal’chik at the Stadion Spartak.
The former FC Midtjylland of Denmark ace told completesportsnigeria.com: “I was informed of my exclusion from the squad by coach Sunday Oliseh who told me he wanted me to get the needed treatment to recover fully from my injury.
“I’m fine now and should feature in Thursday’s Russian Cup game against Russian second division side Spartak Nal’chik,
“Hopefully in subsquent games I’ll be back in the Super Eagles squad.”
Uzochukwu suffered a groin injury while in action for Nigeria in a 2017 AFCON qualifier against Tanzania in Dar es Salaam and so missed the friendly against Niger Republic but was on the bench as his Amkar Perm forced Zenit St Petersburg to a 1-1 draw at the weekend.
He has played five of his side’s nine games in the Russian league since moving on a free this summer.
