Van Gaal Urges his players to be cautious, hails Klopp
Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has charged his players to approach Sunday’s crunch game against Liverpool with caution.
In their first meeting of the season, United triumphed 3-1 at Old Trafford with Anthony Martial scoring the winner.
Speaking ahead of the game in Friday’s press conference, van Gaal said: “You can see it on the faces of the players. Last season for example, Gerrard is on and sent off within 30 seconds.
“That is not happening so much. We need to be aggressive, but also under control in these kind of matches.
“But that is always difficult, because the passion to play these kind of games is always high.”
Van Gaal admitted that the tie is the biggest in England.
“That is how the fans see it and I feel it also already four times.
“We have played against each other four times, also in the USA [in 2014]. You can see it also in the phases of the players.”
He tipped Jurgen Klopp to do well in England.
“You can see his hand and that is very important when he is the manager. You can see a very aggressive and pressing kind of play in Liverpool’s game.
“Of course, he has to learn also the Premier League, the rhythm of the Premier League, and I think he knows already the difference between the Premier League and German League.
“But he is very capable to be a manager in the Premier League because he has always played this kind of football and I think the fans shall love it.”
He ruled out Bastian Schweinsteiger and Michael Carrick from the game.
“Schweinsteiger is coming back but he needs more time.
“Carrick is injured & cannot play [against Liverpool].”
Commenting on David De Gea’s future, van Gaal dismissed claims that the goalkeeper may likely leave United.
“I don’t know, because I don’t think that kind of thing plays in the mind of David De Gea. I have never thought that.
“Now I am seeing a De Gea who is enjoying to stay here at Manchester United and play good games.”Watch The Premier League Live!! with EXPRESSVPN the #1 Trusted Name in VPN
