Liverpool inflicted Chelsea’s first defeat of the season after winning their Premier League clash 2-1 at Stamford Bridge on Friday night.
Liverpool raced to a 2-0 first half lead through Dejan Lovren and Jordan Henderson.
Diego Costa halved the deficit for Chelsea scoring early in the second half.
Georginio Wijnaldum had the first shot on goal in the first minute but Thibaut Courtois made a comfortable save.
A minute later Daniel Sturridge’s low shot was almost spilled by Courtois but he quickly gathered.
In the 14th minute Jordan Henderson aimed a shot close to Chelsea’s box but his effort went over the bar.
Liverpool took the lead on 17 minutes through Lovren who slammed home Philippe Coutinho’s cross.
Sturridge went close for Liverpool on 25 minutes after he flashed his shot across the face of Chelsea’s goal.
A few minutes later eden Hazard broke on the left but his low cross was well held by Simon Mignolet.
In the 31st minute Willian broke from the left but his attempted cross was deflected for a corner.
Chelsea won a free-kick on 34 minutes after Nathaniel Clyne fouled Hazard but David Luiz couldn’t get a clean header on Willian cross which Mignolet saved calmly.
Henderson doubled Liverpool’s lead on 36 minutes with a long range curler which ended on to the top right corner.
Luiz went close for Chelsea in the 39th minute off Willian’s corner but his header missed the target.
On resumption, Chelsea had the first attempt on goal through Oscar but he couldn’t turn Branislav Ivanovic’s low cross towards goal.
Liverpool made the game’s first change with Divock Origi replacing Sturridge.
Costa pulled a goal back for Chelsea on 61 minutes finishing off a brilliant assist by Nemanja Matic.
Costa almost equalised for Chelsea on 65 minute but his left foot strike went straight to Mignolet.
In the 76th minute Willian sent in a cross which took a deflection before Mignolet calmly gathered.
Coutinho hit a low shot inside the area on 79 minutes but Gary Cahill made a timely block.
Origi almost extended Liverpool’s lead on 82 minute but his goal bound header was brilliantly saved by Courtois.
A minute later made their second change with Lucas going in for Coutinho.
And in the 84th minute Chelsea made a tripple change with Victor Moses, Pedro and Cesc Fabregas replacing Matic, Oscar and Willian.
