Watford Coach Has No Adebayor Regrets, Backs Ighalo’s Partner For Euros

Watford manager Quique Sanchez Flores insists he is not regretting missing out on the signature of Togo and Crystal Palace striker Emmanuel Adebayor.

Sanchez will lead his Watford side to Selhurst Park on Saturday for a game against Palace who have signed the former African Footballer of the Year.

Sanchez bared his mind in his press conference ahead of the weekend clash.

"When you are in conversation, when you are looking for a deal you never know how close or how far you are," Flores said. "But I was not frustrated not to get him."

Sanchez Flores also endorsed captain Troy Deeney for a place in England's squad for the 2016 European Championship in France.

The English striker has formed a fearsome attacking partnership alongside Super Eagles striker Odion Ighalo which has produced 20 league goals and has been a subject of interest from other Premier League clubs.

"I said maybe one month ago – Deeney has all the conditions to go to the national team, power, cleverness.

"He understands English football 100 per cent. He can work with Kane and Vardy. He can help all different football styles.

"I have not spoken to Roy Hodgson. Sometimes it happens but not at the moment, and I'm not expecting Roy Hodgson (to call).

"But I would love for this kind of manager to look at my players at Watford. He deserves to go to the national team," the Spaniard further said.

The Hornets' manager further said if it were up to him football fans wouldn’t have to pay to attend matches.

In a week where Liverpool supporters staged a walkout in protest of proposed £77 tickets for certain games at Anfield next season, the rising cost of going to games has come under scrutiny.

If I had tickets they would be free for the fans. If they don’t pay for football for me that is amazing. I support the fans always. Here and everywhere.”

He continued: “In general I would like it if fans don’t have to pay a lot of money. Fans feel amazing love for their team but football isn’t cheap, it is expensive. And for families that is not so good."

The Palace versus Watford game kicks off 4pm Nigerian time on Saturday.
