Watford manager, Quique Sanchez Flores, has stated that Nigerian striker Odion Ighalo failed to score against Crystal Palace because of the close attention that was given to him.
The game which saw Ighalo play for 90 minutes, was decided when Yohan Cabaye slotted in a 71st minute penalty, after Allan Nyom was adjudged to have brought down Wilfred Zaha.
According to the watfordobserver.co.uk, Flores said: “The opponent can reduce the possibilities to score. Crystal Palace closed down (Troy) Deeney and (Odion) Ighalo which made it harder to get close to the goal.
“We tried to change the situation but I am not worried about the goals. We are a humble team who has to suffer for every single goal.
“Goals are very expensive and that is something the top teams pay a lot of money for.”
Prior to the loss against Crystal Palace, Ighalo had scored in his last two games.
He has scored four goals this season in the English Premier League.
