Arsenal edge hard-fighting Leicester
Arsenal defeated Leicester City 2-1 in a dramatic top-of-the-table Premier League encounter at the Emirates on Saturday.
Substitute Danny Welbeck was the hero after scoring in the 95th minute off a Mezut Ozil free-kick.
Arsenal had the first chance in less than one minute through a cross from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, but it was cleared away by Danny Simpson for a corner kick.
Petr Cech came to Arsenal’s rescue on 16 minutes after stopping Jamie Vardy header on the line.
In the 24th minute, Alexis Sanchez shot was blocked off by Wes morgan for a corner after a one-two play between Olivier Giroud and Chamberlain.
Giroud headed the ball into the net in the 32nd minute off a Mezut Ozil cross but he was flagged for off-side.
Ngolou Kante strike almost curled into the top right corner in the 39th minute but Cech parried away for a corner.
Vardy eventually opened the scoring in the 45th minute from the penalty spot after Nacho Monreal foul him inside the 18-yard box.
Aaron Ramsey almost drew Arsenal level from the restart, his effort narrowly missed the target.
Giroud connected with a Monreal cross in the 53rd minute but his header went over the bar.
Simpson was shown a red card, his second of the game, for a foul on Giroud.
In the 69th minute, Theo Walcott made a pin-point cross which went past everybody.
Walcott finally made it 1-1 in the 70th minute off a Giroud flick-on.
Sanchez had a chance in the 76th minute unfortunately he blasted his shot wide.
In the 78th minute Kante saw his shot went off the target after good hold up play by Vardy.
Mertesacker came very close in the 84th minute but failed to connect properly with his head.
And in the 95th minute, Welbeck headed in an Ozil free-kick to give Arsenal the win.
Arsenal are now two points off Leicester City at the top of the table.
