Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has criticised the club’s fans for always questioning his decisions and not knowing what they want.
“On one side people want you to have seven strikers, on the other side when you rest one they ask you why you are not playing him,” the Frenchman said on Friday during his press conference ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash with Aston Villa.
“I am not in the job for chasing my own ego. I like doing well and doing well for all the people who care about Arsenal.”
On reports linking the club with Southampton midfielder Victor Wanyama, Wenger said: “I rate the player, but we are not on the case.”
He adds that, contrary to reports, there is “no chance” of midfielder Jack Wilshere being fit by the end of December.
“Arteta and Sanchez will not be available, the rest back after Christmas.”
Wenger then praised Aston Villa boss Remi Garde, a fellow Frenchman.
He said: “He is intelligent. We are competitors so let him do his job.”
