Manager Arsene Wenger has said he fully expects Alexis Sanchez to run Eden Hazard close when it comes to the Players’ Player of the Year Award this term.
The attacker has scored 22 times in his first season at the club having joined us over the summer, and he hit a brace in the recent FA Cup semi final win over Reading at Wembley.
Chelsea’s Hazard has also been impressive this season for Jose Mourinho, and Wenger told the Official Site that he expected it to be a close run contest between both of them as they should both be proud of what they’ve achieved this year.
‘Alexis had a big impact and let`s not forget that for Hazard it is not the first season but for Alexis it is. He will give him a fight and if Alexis doesn`t make it this year, he will give him a fight as well for next season.’
Wenger went on to say that he felt everybody ‘would agree’ that Hazard has had a ‘great season’ and of course this weekend one of our biggest challenges will be in keeping him quiet, and this year he feels Hazard has shown that ‘maturity’ that puts players on the top of their game – but again undoubtedly with it being Alexis’ first season he’s already there.
