By James Agberebi: Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger hailed Nigerian youngster Alex Iwobi's performance in Friday's 1-1 draw against RC Lens in the Gunners' first pre-season friendly.
Iwobi, along with Chuba Akpom, featured from the start for Arsenal before going off in the second half.
The 19-year-old was a revelation for Arsenal last season, scoring two goals.
According to arsenal.com, in his assessment of the game, Wenger expressed satisfaction in the overall performance of his team while praising their hosts for giving them a good game.
He also stated that he is still monitoring the progress of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's who missed a large part of last season through injury.
“I’m very pleased because we had a very dynamic game. This team starts their season next week with ambition to come up to Ligue 1 again," Wenger said.
“It was a big atmosphere and all you could want to have a good preparation for the season. They played quick, sharp, well organised and closed us down, and that’s better than having loose friendlies. I’m very pleased with the quality of our workout.
“I’m still a bit cautious. He’s fully recovered but I want him to go through four or five games first to be completely reassured. You could see that straight away, when he came on, he brought something to the team.
“Let’s hope he (Chamberlain) gets through the rest of pre-season. It was also good for me to see some young players. Krystian Bielik came on and did very well for example, and you could see Alex Iwobi in different positions too, so it was interesting.”
