Former Nigeria coach, Clemens Westerhof, Sunday, commended the Super Eagles for commencing their 2017 AFCON campaign on a good note, with a 2-0 triumph over Chad but quickly warned that Le Sao was no true test for the three-time African champions.
Westerhof was particularly pleased with the victory at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium Kaduna, on Saturday, saying it will give the team and Stephen Keshi the confidence to forge ahead.
"Super Eagles defeated Chad 2-0, it's good for Keshi, it's good for Nigeria", Westerhof said.
"It's good the Super Eagles won, but Chad are not a big team to scare the Super Eagles.Yes, it is important to start winning from the first game, it gives confidence and the team gets better".
"I'm happy for Keshi, but he has to work hard with the team because yes, Tanzania and Egypt are important games and will be much more difficult" he continues.
Westerhof who spoke to Complete Sports from his home in the Netherlands, posited that Super Eagles will have themselves to blame if they don't qualify for Gabon 2017 AFCON.
"Nigeria is a big footballing country, you have many players in Europe, with Keshi as coach, he is a good coach, so you must go to the AFCON," Westerhof stressed.
