By Adeboye Amosu:
Championship sides Wolverhampton Wanderers, Derby County and Birmingham City have emerged as the favourites to sign Nigerian forward, Victor Anichebe, according to reports in England.
The powerful forward was released alongside fellow African Stephane Sessegnon at the end of last season by West Bromwich Albion.
Anichebe, 28, spent three seasons with the Baggies and struggled to earn a regular spot at the club following his arrival from Everton.
A move to Wolves will see him team up with Carl Ikeme who is now Nigeria’s number one goalkeeper following the retirement of Vincent Enyeama.
A product of the Everton Academy, Anichebe scored 26 goals in 168 appearances for the Toffees, while he hit the back of the net nine times in 63 appearances for West Brom.
He was part of Nigeria’s U-23 side that won silver in the football event of Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
