Reigning champions of the 2016 Women's Africa Cup of Nations, the Super Falcons of Nigeria reached the final with a nervy 1-0 win over Bayana Bayana of South Africa in their semi-final clash on Tuesday. Completesportsnigeria.com's JOHNNY EDWARD appraises the individual performances of the Super Falcons in the encounter.
Alaba Jonathan 6/10: The Super Falcons' goalkeeper was composed all through the match, and made crucial saves in the second half to help the Super Falcons reach their ninth final in Cameroun.
Osinachi Ohale 6/10: Ohale kept the South African wingers relatively quiet but was not always as tight as she normally would have been defensively.
Onome Ebi 7/10: The Super Falcons looked more solid with Ebi's partnership with Ugo Njoku in the centre of defence and they helped secure the team's third clean sheet in the tournament.
Ugo Njoku 6/10: Stretched at times in the first-half, but was strong to shrug off challenges from the Bayana Bayana forwards though she was cautioned in the 78th minute.
Faith Ikidi 4/10: Aside from the free-kick which she earned at the edge of the Bayana Bayana box which led to the opening goal, Faith aikido, defensively, was far from her best as she was easily beaten for pace by the South African forwards. One of the weakest links in the Super Falcons defence line.
Rita Chikwelu 5/10: Started well and controlled the midfield and was more effective on the ball when she joined the attack.
Halimat Ayinde 6/10: Ayinde, alongside skipper Rita Chikwelu dominated the midfield and they were able to match the South African midfield that lacked the initiative to break the resolute Super Falcons' defence line.
Franseca Ordega 4/10: Ordega offered very little as a creative force even when the Super Falcons were on top in the second-half. Didn't justify her inclusion in the starting line-up.She was replaced by Chioma Wogu with ten minutes left.
Asisat Oshoala 6/10: Not the attacking force she has been for the team in recent games, but she stretched the South African defence on the counter in the second half. Oshoala was however unlucky not to have been awarded a penalty. Unable to capitalise on a second-half opportunity when she was through on goal with a defender to beat
Ngozi Okobi 6/10: Worked her socks off as ever. Combined well with Ohale in launching attack from the right flank before she ran out of steam.
Desire Oparanoize 5/10: Average performance by her standards, but she took her chance with a well taken free-kick at the edge of the box. Definitely a contender for goal of the tournament.
