World Exclusive By Qasim Elegbede In Mainz, Germany:
Super Eagles defender, Leon Balogun tasted action for just nine minutes when his club FSV Mainz 05 hosted Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich and lost 3-0 Arena on Saturday, but he exclusively told Completesportsnigeria.com here at Cosface Arena, the reasons why he will hold his head up.
Robert Lewansdowski netted two: in the 51st and 63rd minutes, while Kingley Coman scored in the 68th minute to complete an emphatic away win for Pep Guardiola's team.
Leon Balogun who replaced Christian Clemens in the 81st minute produced a brilliant moment to to stop rampaging Lewansdowski from grabbing a hat-trick here at Coface Arena.
"I had to make a last ditch tackle. Lewandowski is probably the hottest striker in the world today. And having already scored twice, he must have thought he had grabbed his third goal as he was only a couple of yards from an empty net," Balogun told Completesportsnigeria.com.
"All he needed to do was a tap in but I came from nowhere and made a good tackle which surprised and unsettled him.
"He hit the ball and I made a block. I thought the ball came off him last which earned us a goalkick. Had he scored, the scoreline would have been 4-0 against us, and I don't think we were that bad.
"Do I want to take credit for the block? Oh, no, no, no, I was just doing my job.
"I need to continue playing well, and who knows, the coach may give me a starting shirt next week against my former club (SV Darmstadt).
"The most important thing for me is to keep working hard, keep my focus and be ready. "
