The Rashidi Yekini Foundation is encouraging players to follow in the late striker's footsteps by instituting a goalscoring award in his honour, completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Yekini, who passed on three years ago, scored a record 37 goals in 53 appearances for Nigeria and was an accomplished scorer at club level too.
And the foundation will present a trophy and N100,000 cash to the highest goal scorer in the Glo Premier League at the end of the current season, in the prolific scorer's memory.
Jubril Muhammed of the Foundation revealed exclusively to completesportsnigeria.com that they have positive feedback concerning the official backing of the league organisers for the award.
"The Foundation has officially communicated the sponsorship offer to the League Management Company and we have been assured of positive consideration, " Muhammed told completesportsnigeria.com.
