Former Super Eagles captain, Joseph Yobo, has expressed sadness following the death of Nigerian player, Michael Umanyika, in training with his Azerbaijan club side Zagatala PFK.

Umanyika, 20, slumped and died during the club's training earlier on Tuesday.

All efforts by his teammates and medics to revive him were unsuccessful and he was confirmed dead shortly afterwards.

Reacting to the sad incident, Yobo wrote on his Twitter handle: "Sad to read of the death of a young #NGR footballer, Michael Umanyika in training with Zagatala PFK, Azerbaijan #RIP."

Umanyika joined Zagatala PFK last season and has only played 20 times.
