Super Eagles assistant coach Salisu Yusuf has hinted that the home-based Super Eagles players could get starting shirts in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Egypt this month, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
The former Kano Pillars coach spoke to Completesportsnigeria.com from the Eagles' camp in Abuja on Wednesday as the home-based players started camping for the crucial games.
"The home-based players know the matches against Egypt are crucial and we commend their dedication.
"They have been professional. Apart from the three players who were decamped and are now in the U-23 team; Usman Mohammed, Stanley Dimgba and Segun Oduduwa, the rest came to camp on time.
"Most of the players here were in the Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) team and not reaching the latter stages of the competition in Rwanda is one motivation the boys need to do well against Egypt. They will surely challenge the players from Europe for starting places.
On the state of fitness in camp, Yusuf confirmed that only Enugu Rangers right back, Orji Kalu, is the player with an injury setback.
"The players are okay. Actually only Orji Kalu picked up a knock in his club's league game against Wikki Tourists over the weekend. We don't expect him to be out of training for too long though. Aside him, the others are in good health," the coach told Completesportsnigeria.com.
