Zlatan Ibrahimovic grabbed a brace as Manchester United defeated Southampton 2-0 at Old Trafford on Friday night.
It was Ibrahimovic’s first home league game for United since joining from PSG.
The former Sweden international has now scored three goals in two league games after opening his account against Bournemouth last weekend.
Also in action for United was world record signing Paul Pogba, who was making his full debut upon returning to Old Trafford for £89m.
Ten minutes into the game saw United in control of ball possession but could not make their domination in the early part of the game count.
A minute later, Southampton were forced to an early change as Oriol Romeu went off injured and was replaced by Jordy Clasie.
In the 26th minute, Shane Long almost gave Southampton the lead after turning inside United’s area but his shot didn’t go in.
United finally broke the deadlock on 36 minutes through Ibrahimovic who headed in Rooney’s cross.
On resumption, Dusan Tadic had the ball in the back of the net for Southampton but he was flagged offside.
And in the 52nd minute, Ibrahimovic made it 2-0 from the penalty spot after Clasie brought down Luke Shaw inside the box.
United temporarily top the league table with six points from two games.
