Manchester United began the new English Premier League season under new manager Jose Mourinho with a 3-1 win over Bournemouth on Sunday at the Vitaly Stadium.
Goals from Juan Mata, Wayne Rooney and Zlatan Ibrahimovic gave Mourinho his seventh opening day fixture triumph in the English Premier League.
Juan Mata scored the United opener when he latched on to Simon Francis’ woeful backpass to Artur Boruc for the Spanish midfielder to tap into an empty net.
A decent spell for Bournemouth in the second half saw Jordon Ibe’s shot blocked for a corner in the 51st minute.
Wayne Rooney doubled the lead for Mourinho’s side in the 59th minute, heading home Anthony Martial’s miscued shot.
ZIbrahimovic also got on the score sheet on his Premier League debut with a 25 yard scorcher which left Artur Boruc stranded.
The strike means Ibrahimovic has scored on his league debut for five of the eight teams he has featured for: Juventus, Inter Milan, Barcelona, Paris St-Germain and Manchester United.
Adam Smith scored a consolatory goal from close range with a fine left-foot strike for the Cherries with 20 minutes left to play after being set up by Lewis Grabban, 60 seconds after he left the bench.
