D’Tigers head coach Alex Nwora has named his 19-year-old son Jordan, who plays for University of Louisville, USA, captain Ike Diogu, Mbamalu Bryant, Uzoh Benjamin and eight other players in his final squad for the 2019 FIBA World Cup qualifiers which tip on Friday in Lagos, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

Nwora announced his squad for the qualifiers shortly after the team’s last training session at the Indoor Sports of the National Stadium Thursday evening with Alade Aminu and Olaseni Lawal missing out.

The pair were inexplicably unavailable for the tournament, a top source informed Completesportsnigeria.com.

D’Tigers will face Rwanda, Mali and Uganda during the qualifiers which will run for three days. Nigeria will tip off their campaign on Friday before facing Rwanda and Mali on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

Others named in the Nigeria squad include Omoerah Keith Sado (Baerum Basket, Norway), Braxton Ogbueze Jai (Charlotte University, USA), Agada Caleb Apochi (Prat, Spain), Okosun Augustine Obehioye (Sameji Dominican Republic) Mehinti Tosin Idowu (Lavrio, Greece) and Moses Kingsley (Antwerp Giants, Belgium).

Uzoh Benjamin (CB Caballero De Culican, Mexico), Mbamalu Bryant (CD Vildivia, Chile), Zanna Talib (Ironi Nes-Zion’s, Italy) and Emenago Obinna Clinton (Rouen Basket, France) complete the list of players to represent Nigeria at the 2019 FIBA World Cup qualifiers.

Speaking on readiness of his team against Uganda on Friday, Nwora told the media department of the Nigerian Basketball Federation: “It’s going to be a good test for his team but he remains hopeful of a win.”

“We played them before. The last time we played them, they gave us a lot of problem. Now, they have newer players who did not play in the second window.”
