2018 World Cup: France And Belgium To Meet In First Semi-Final Clash

The all-European tie will take place at the Saint Petersburg Stadium

Two of Europe’s strongest sides will lock horns this coming Tuesday (10 July) in Saint Petersburg for a place in the biggest contest in international football: the World Cup final. There are now only European sides left in the FIFA competition and, given the way the bracket worked out, arguably the two stronger teams will meet in the final four, with France and Belgium, on paper at least, looking like the two best outfits left in the tournament.

First things first

Where can I win money in this game?

Looking at the head to head record between these sides, it is Belgium who come out on top. The two nations have faced each other on 73 previous occasions, with the Red Devils winning 30 of those games, France 24 and the other 19 ending in a stalemate.

And despite Belgium being at the slightly longer odds in this one, they have been in the better form at the World Cup. Roberto Martinez’s side boast a 100 per cent record at the competition and eliminated World Cup favourites Brazil in the last round – they are at 3.10 to beat France inside 90 minutes, meaning you could more than triple your investment.

France, meanwhile, come in as the slight favourites to progress to the final. Didier Deschamps’ side are at 2.55 to win in normal time, and you can back the French at 1.72 simply to make it to the final, by whatever means, according to Oddsshark.

The French came into the World Cup as one of the pre-tournament favourites, and with the likes of Germany, Argentina, Spain and Brazil now all eliminated their path would look to be clear. France are now the outright favourites to win the competition at a price of just 3.00, while their semi-final opponents Belgium are priced at 3.75, level with England.

The biggest weapon at Deschamps’ disposal is his squad’s strength in depth. In KylianMbappe he has arguably the best player in the tournament to date, and the teenager is at just 3.10 to get on the score sheet in this one.

It will be no surprise to learn that Belgium’s biggest goal threat in the tie will be RomeluLukaku. The Manchester United forward did not net against Brazil but did create the second goal for Kevin de Bruyne, and he is priced at just 2.50 to score at any time, and 5.50 to net either the first or last goal of the game.

Belgium are the highest scoring side at the tournament so far with 14 goals, and we are expecting to see more in this tie. Under two goals in the tie is priced at 3.00, two or three goals at 1.95 and over three goals looks good value at 3.75.

Both to teams to score is priced at 1.80, and the way these two teams play that is a distinct possibility. You can also back both teams to score in the first half at 5.00 and the second at the shorter price of 3.75.

Predicting exact scores is never easy, but a 2-1 win for Belgium is priced competitively at 12.00. That would mean more than a ten-fold return on any investment. With that in mind, you can also back both teams to score at a price of 1.80, while a “No” to that outcome would mean you could almost double your money at 1.95.

But if you are still having difficulty picking between these two teams then you can go for the “Double Chance” option, which allows you to choose two outcomes rather than just one for the 90-minute outcome. Do you think either France will win or it will end in a draw? Then back that at 1.38.

A Belgium win or a draw is at the slightly higher price of 1.55. And you can back ether side to pick up the win at just 1.35.

With both France and Belgium playing open, attacking football, the chances of a goal in the first 10 minutes are fairly high. You can back France to be ahead after 10 minutes at 10.00, while Belgium are slightly higher to take an early lead, at 11.00.
