    Clash of the titans.

No mercy, we must take our chances if we want to make life miserable for the South Africans.

  • Who wants to bet Kalu doesn’t make the starting lineup?

As he is dragging his feet others will start ahead of him. I now expect Chukwueze to start on the right wing as he will have more time training on the tactics to be used.

I will prefer Chukwueze any day anytime because of his final ball intelligence.

    • Joel Chidi 1 month ago

That will be foolishness on the part of the coach to start him straight away. Simon is there, onyekuru is there, even success can be deployed. All of a sudden, chukwueze waltz in. Not like that bro. An impact sub will be most appropriate

      • @Joel, Impact sub is what Moses has been all season for his club. Has he played a full match for Levante yet? Not sure he has (I may be wrong). For that reason Chukwueze is ahead of him.
Onyekuru is a good option but his best work is done on the left of field, but left wing belongs to Musa at this time to start, Onyekuru can come in for Musa if necessary. Chukwueze shades Onyekuru slightly in my opinion.
Success is our best bet for centre forward, although he’ll have to fight off Iheanacho and Osimhen for that position
Truth is we have options and should go for the strongest line up.
Chukwueze is more effective than Kalu on the right and can move to number ten position if necessary to replace Iwobi.
Musa has experience and is Captain, links up well with the attack and can go on his own if necessary. Onyekuru is my next choice for left wing. Iwobi can also move to his best position from centre to left wing in a tactical change and Simon my final option for left wing.

Centre forward I’ve put success first, Iheanacho second and Osimhen third.
But you are right, they can switch positions and play anywhere on the front line, but that is my strongest lineup.

Guy chukwueze has only played twice in laliga. You don’t expect him to be thrown in the lions den immediately.
He has to start from friendly games.

      • He had only played twice in La Liga correct, but he had also played in the Copa Del Rey, Europa League and Segunda b .
15 matches, 4 goals, 2 assists and 1173 minutes this season.

Europa League 3 matches is not Moin moin, neither is The Spanish cup where he played 90 minutes, plus 73 minutes against artak Moscow.
Moses Simon has only played 133 minutes this season

@BigD. Those are the stats for the ongoing season only, which is fascinating and much better than Moses Simon. However, Simon has played at least 5 seasons of top class European football including regular appearances in the UEFA champions League and had won the league in Belgium. Those pedigree alone makes Simon way ahead of Chukwueze in the SuperEagles pecking order. The young teenager his precociously talented and still got a lot to learn. Iheanacho, Onyekuru, Kalu, Simon are all ahead of him in the SuperEagles at the moment. He will only get his chances little by little and must make an impact whenever he gets his opportunities or else fans will start swinging their tones on him. I hope he make an impact when the chances arises.

God will give us the desire results with hard-work,dedication and luck. However, our players need to take the match with all seriousness it deserves.

Kalu replace Victor Moses and has started coming late like Victor Moses

  • Funny people Chukwueze what? Who do you want him to bench there? Even his club doesn’t use him much like that, they are introducing him bit by bit cos they know he is a young player.

    • He is now a starter in Villarreal. I’m not his fan yet because he rely much on left foot and can’t cross ball with his right foot and that makes it easy to be marked out.

  • Take of the tape. Nigerian forwards matches, goals, assists, minutes played this season so far. All leagues, all competitions:

Sam Chukwueze 15 matches, 4 goals 2 assists 1173 minutes on the pitch. La Liga (2), Europa League (3) and Copa Del Rey (1) plus Segunda B (9)

    Samuel Kalu 16 matches, 1 goal, 3 assists 1185 minutes. League 1 (10), Europa (4) Europa Qualifying (2)

Henry Onyekuru 13 matches, 4 goals 913 minutes League (10), champions League (3)

    Musa Ahmed 8 matches, 4 goals, 3 assists 644 minutes. League (8)

    Alex Iwobi 15 matches, 1 goal, 5 assists 824 minutes . League (9), Europa (4), Cup (2)

Moses Simon 5 matches, 1 goal 133 minutes. La Liga (4), Copa (1)

    Victor Osimhen 11 matches 6 goals 1 assist 780 minutes. League (10) cup (1)

    Kelechi Iheanacho 13 matches, 2 goals, 3 assists 688 minutes. League (11), cup (2)

Very useful stats Big D. Gives an updated picture. However, GR will look at combination play and incisiveness in attack, and coverage and team play in defence. Musa and Kanu have proved themselves in last three matches and Iwobi as playmaker. Who takes Ighalo’s position as front man, or attack leader?
The South Africans play a fast passing game. We need to match them for speed and team play, on and off the ball. Battle to dictate flow of the game, and then use our greater exposure and experience in international football, to outscore them.

    • Tale of the tape:

      I missed out one:

Isaac Success 14 matches 3 goals 615 minutes
      League (12), Cup (2)

This shows that our players really mean the business in South Africa. Good luck Super Eagles. God bless Nigeri!!!

This Semi Ajayi is a gigantic tall lad. See as the guy cover everybody on that pitch. He can be a key player for the SuperEagles with his versatility to also play as a DM. Yes I agree that Chukwueze may have a chance to start if Kalu can not make it to camp by now. However, giving his first call up to the national team there are players ahead of him on the right wing. Iheanacho can also play from the right wing to link up with Success just like their U17 days which was a devastating attacking combo during their formative years. If Kalu remains a doubt I’ll deploy Kelechi in that role for his pedigree and experience even at a very young age. I don’t think it will be a good idea to just throw Chukwueze in the starting line up just like that ahead of other established senior players in these really young SuperEagles. He can be more efficient as an impact sub in a game of this magnitude or a late sub depending how close the match is. The starting line up is not going to be too far from this: Akpeyi/Afelokhai, Collins, Aina, Ekong, Balogun/Omeruo, Ogu, Etebo, Iwobi, Musa, Kalu/Iheanacho, Succes.

Talking about Semi…I first took note of him at the toulon tournament in 2013 or so. Very elegant and intelligent defender….always reminds me of Late Keshi and Uche okechukwu. He does his job without much fuss. How he eventually didint make John Obuh’s U20 team for the world cup that year still beats my imagination. He was clearly the revelation of that tournament. I tip him to be the long term partner of Troost Ekong in the Central defence. The duo will make a classic beauty and the beast central defence pairing.

I think the coaches should consider playing Iheanacho on the right wing. That appears to be his best position, recall he played there at the U17 world cup. He can cut in on his left foot and deliver shots and crosses. Chukwueze can do this as well. My ideal lineup – Afelokhai in goal. Defence – Aina, Ekong, Balogun, Collins.
Midfield – Iwobi, Ogu, Etebo. Forwards – Musa, Success, Iheanacho/Chukwueze.
Kalu and Onyekuru can be impact subs. In spite of his lack of game time, Balogun remains my choice to partner Ekong. Unless major yawa gas, he has cemented that position for himself. Na look we dey look Vic Moses. He retired from SE, now Sarri has pretty much retired him from Chelsea. What next? China? Looks like coming back to SE is what his career needs at the moment.

  • Pompei 1 month ago

Regarding Moses Simon – if fully fit, he is a difficult one to leave on the bench. I hear he is doing really well in the SE training.

  • @pompei…..balogun is nt active in his club…..i suggest we go for omeruo who is active nd has been producing a very good attidude…..thats jst my opinion..,..i hope am talking sense

  • @bigD and Omo9ja……watd du u guys think the outcome of these wil b…. SA hav bigger advantage since we lose at home to them

  • Sunnyb 1 month ago

Our midfield worries me though, I wouldn’t mind Ajayi, Etebo and Iwobi combination, or start with Ajayi, Ogu and Iwobi.Bafana Bafana players are very fast, possession would be the key in defeating them

  • I noticed for quite some time now that Tyrone Ebuechi is no longer part of players invited by Gernot Rohr. Is anything the matter?

  • abdulrahman 1 month ago

    he is injured

  • Samuel N.C 1 month ago

Leaving Iheanacho on the right wing, won’t be good for the team and for him considering the fact that Iheanacho plays as a left-footer…. In terms of the forward i do suggest we either start Onyekuru or Even Victor Osimhen….because we need slim-fitted and agile forward than to Isaac success who cant actually move that fast…Thanks! I will appreciate if my opinion is considered….
