Nigerian youngster Kelechi Iheanacho scored his third Premier League goal but Manchester City still went on to lose 2-1 to Tottenham Hotspur at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.
It was City’s second consecutive home defeat after last weekend’s loss to Leicester.
The early part of the game saw both teams failing to stamp their authority as chances were at a premium
In the 14th minute, Heung-Min Son evetually had the ball in the back of the net but it was ruled offside.
A minute later, David Silva played in a cross which was deflected off for a corner by Toby Alderwereld.
Gael Clichy made a left-wing cross in the 20th minute which failed to find any City player.
In the 24th minute, Danny Rose made a vital block off a Raheem Sterling following a free-kick.
Joe Hart was called into action in the 28 minute when he parried away a Christian Eriksen 25-yard drive.
Ross saw his shot blocked away in the 42nd minute after Vincent Kompany’s header fell to him.
Sergio Aguero missed a very good chance in the 49th minute after blazing his shot over the bar from close range.
Harry Kane finally opened the scoring from the penalty spot on 53 minutes after Sterling was adjudged to have handled Danny Rose’s cross.
Yaya came close to making it 1-1 from a free-kick from 25 yards in the 56th minute, the strike came off the cross bar.
In the 63rd minute, Silva saw his shot from the edge blocked by Alderwereld which eventually went off for a goal kick.
City made their first change when Kelechi Iheanacho replaced Fernando on 66 minutes.
And in the 74th minute, Iheanacho made City pressure pay off after he smashed the ball into the roof of the net off an assist from Gael Clichy.
On 78 minutes, Toure nearly made it 2-1 but Hugo Lloris pushed the shot to safety.
Spurs went in front again this time through Eriksen in the 83rd minute after substitute Erik Lamela slid the ball to him.
City poured forward for the equaliser and came close only for Silva to see his effort sail over the bar.
The win moves Spurs to second above Arsenal and two points off leaders Leicester City while City occupy the fourth spot.
