Bastian Schweinsteiger shook off the disappointment of Germany’s failure to win Euro 2016 on Tuesday as he got married to Serbian tennis star Ana Ivanovic in Venice, Italy on Tuesday.
The Germany captain and Ivanovic have been in a relationship since 2014.
The wedding was held at the Palazzo Cavalli, the Venice City Hall that has been dedicated to wedding ceremonies since 1990.
According to the Mail, the couple had let friends know to keep the dates from July 11 to 13 free for a celebration – one that Australian Open winner Angelique Kerber had let slip in January was to be a wedding.
And it was understandably for the married couples families too as Ivanovic’s parents, Mirsolav and Dragana, beamed with pride – with the former taking a photo on his mobile.
Schweinsteiger’s father, Alfred, and older brother, Tobias, were also in attendance.
Ivanovic, 28, won the French Open in 2008 and was ranked No.1 in the world that year.
Manchester United star Schweinsteiger, 31, was in the Germany squad that won the 2014 FIFA World Cup and captained the team to the Euro 2016 semi-finals.
